in the vineyard : 2010 was the maiden vintage for the new shiraz block at Klein Constantia which yielded perfectly balanced grapes with small berries, higher acidity and riper flavours at a lower sugar level. These factors resulted in a brilliant shiraz vintage which, instead of being added to our red blend, has been bottled once-off for limited release. Just under 2 tons were harvested producing a mere 1600 bottles.

in the cellar : The grapes were fermented with 10% stems in small wooden vats that received gentle punch-downs on average three times per day, in order to extract soft and gentle tannins and properly express the rich fruit expression. This was followed by malolactic fermentation in neutral 500 litre French oak barrels and further aging for 12 months before blending and bottling.
