Klein Constantia Perdeblokke Sauvignon Blanc 2012

A diverse but defined nose with primary aromas of straw and flintiness is followed by fruity notes of Kiwi fruit and citrus. Strong minerality in the wine truly expresses the unique terrior of the 'Perdeblokke' vineyard. The palate is a crisp concentration of sweet melon, Kiwi fruit and wood spice flavours with a savoury finish unique to the Constantia valley. The pH and acidity of this wine ensure that it will age gracefully.

ageing : Perdeblokke will definitely benefit from ageing but is also enjoyable from 2013.

in the vineyard : Klein Constantia Perdeblokke is a single vineyard wine. The name refers to the horses that tilled the soils of this vineyard whose steep slopes lie 200 - 220 metres above sea level. Since its planting in 2000, the Perdeblokke has yielded the best quality sauvignon on the farm, which prompted the decision to produce a single vineyard wine. It is made only in years of exceptional quality in order to uphold the reputation of the Perdeblokke vineyard.

about the harvest: Harvested in the cool, early morning.

in the cellar : The grapes were gently pressed to yield fresh, healthy juice which was lightly racked before being inoculated for fermentation, which took place partially in tank before being put to barrel. The wine was aged in neutral 500 litre barrels on the fine lees for a period of 5 months to allow for integration of wood tannin, adding complexity without being over-pronounced.
