Mulderbosch Faithful Hound White 2013

Straw golden with a gentle green hue to it, the wine appears fresh and alive. Aromas of fragrant lime leaves intermingle with ripe quince and a bracing mineral note. Complex flavours marked by pithy grapefruit are balanced by firm texture and fresh acidity, which carries through to the deliciously long finish.

in the cellar : One of the great marriages in wine must surely be that of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. At their best, wines made from these two grapes offer a thrilling example of texture and aromatics, structure and finesse. The Semillon component is derived from an old bush vine vineyard in Franschhoek. Grapes were whole-bunch pressed to a combination of new and older 500 litre French oak barrels where primary fermentation took place. Malolactic fermentation was blocked to retain the freshness and purity of the fruit. The Sauvignon Blanc component is a mixture of barrel fermentation (neutral barrels) and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. After twelve months of élevage the two components were blended and put back to oak for a further three months.
