The 1998 Estate wine was awarded four and a half stars in the John Platter 2001.
In the March/April 2001 edition of the Wine of the Month Club magazine, Uiterwyk 1998 Estate Wine was chosen as the best red blend out of 51 wines.

ageing : 10 to 15 months

in the cellar : The 1993 Uiterwyk Estate Wine was the first Cape Blend to be made in South Africa. A Cape Blend is a wine in which Pinotage is the crucial component of the blend. The 1998 Estate blend received cold maceration for 14 days for ultimate fruit extraction. It was matured for 23 months in 60% new French barriques. The Pinotage in the blend is the well-known Top-of-the-Hill Pinotage from Uiterwyk.
