Steenberg Echo Red Blend 2014

The Echo's colour is deep red with a lighter, garnet red on the rim. The nose entices with mulberry, black cherry, star anise, dried origanum and spearmint. It is a fleshy wine, elegantly showcasing a juicy acidity with a delicate tannin structure that adds to the velvety structure onthe palate. Spice and earthy notes linger on the palate long after the last sip.

The Merlot forms the backbone of this wine and seduces with a velvety texture and aromas of black cherries and mint. The Cabernet Franc adds a subtle fragrance and powdery tannins to the blend, whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon contributes to the beautiful tannin structure, spice and dark fruit on the palate.

Pump overs were done three times per day to extract colour and tannin. After fermentation the wines were racked into 225L French oak barrels - a combination of 2nd and 3rd fill. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel and the wine was aged for 19 months. A light fining was done before bottling in October 2015.
