Muratie Amber Forever 2015

‘Heady, sweet and luscious’ are all words which spring to mind when first coming into contact with this wine. Aromas of sweet sun-ripened grapes, musk perfume, rose petals and hints of litchis give way to a gently-sweet mouthful of golden raisins, fynbos honey, exotic earthy notes all offset by a crisp acidity which keeps the sweetness in check. Wonderful balance of alcohol with fruit intensity leads through to a long sweet finish of poached pears and perfumed peaches. A sure-fire winner with salty blue cheeses or a Poire Belle Helene.

in the vineyard : Muratie’s Amber was first produced by George Paul Canitz in the 1940’s. The name Amber originated from both the colour of the product as well as the novel Forever Amber written by Kathleen Winsor in the 1940’s. This novel is the story of a high class girl who kept some of the British upper class gentleman happy and content in the 1940’s! Hence the quote by Canitz “To happy days and glorious nights, Forever Amber”.

about the harvest: True to tradition, our Amber is made from Hanepoot grapes (Muscat d’Alexandrie) harvested at 25° balling and fortified with grape spirits at the critical time in order to assure us enough residual sugar left. This fortified wine is made primarily for its loyal followers.
