It has lots to offer, this is a complex wine. There’s tobacco leaf from the 12 months in barrel (10% new), to add to the maraschino cherry richness.
The secondary flavour spectrum is typical of the variety, dusty, earthy, white pepper, a touch of fynbos, more Old World, Rhône-like, than fruit-driven New World. A touch of Viognier lifts the perfume with gentle floral nuances.
Elegant, supple and streamlined, it nevertheless has a firm enough savoury finish to handle rich dishes, or ensure good ageing potential.
