Benguela Cove Malbec 2017

Imagine sinking your nose into a bouquet of freshly cut red roses. This Malbec sticks its neck out with confidence, displaying vivid aromas of plum, liquorice and cherries. The fruit is caressed with a cool, spicy note that adds freshness. Tightly knit tannins and an electric purple hue are indicative of youth and longevity.

With a great stature, this wine invites a feast of flavour. And if it can be done over a fire, all the better. It’s time to let the unsung hero meat cuts
shine, like a hanger steak.

in the vineyard : Dowsed with all the privileges from a cool climate, Walker Bay has become synonymous with outstanding South African Pinot Noir. On the oceans edge, the vineyard enjoys cool daytime temperatures that drop at night with a beneficial diurnal range that aids in even ripening.
Slope: south east and south west facing vineyards| Soil: predominantly weathered shale and iron laterites, high calcium content.
Block: 3.5 hectares, dryland
Clones: 777, 115 - all grapes are estate grown.

about the harvest: Grapes were handpicked.

in the cellar : Grapes were handpicked at optimal potential with selected bunch and berry sorting in the cellar. Partially whole bunch fermented to retain freshness and texture; the four day cold soak encouraged maximum fruit and colour extraction. The juice was inoculated, followed by gentle punch downs twice a day. After alcoholic fermentation, it was pressed, settled and transferred to barrel for malolactic fermentation.
Maturation: 18 months, 30% new French oak barrels | Production: 11 barrels
