Benguela Cove Collage 2017

Ruby red in colour, this classic, multi-faceted Bordeaux styled blend shows aromas of plum, violets, clove spice and cigar box. On the palate, hints of raspberry, boiled sweets and liquorice is accompanied by a chalky tannin structure and layers of sweet spice with an overall seamless finish.

This classic Bordeaux style blend works well with the earthy tones of the braaied springbok and textures of beetroot. Sour raspberries picks up deep fruit flavours in the wine, while the smoky elements help personify a cherry cigar box aroma on the nose. A well-rounded dish paired with this bold blend helps to create a seamless finish on a chilly winter’s day.

2019 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show - Bronze

ageing : The wine can be savoured now or cellared for up to eight years from vintage

in the vineyard : This blended wine is from various vineyards across the estate. We are in the fortunate position to have a great diversity of vineyard slopes, soil types, row direction and cultivar clones on the property. This makes for different micro climates which results into broad spectrum of wine aromatics, tannin and acidity levels to work and blend with. All that eventually adds to the final wines having a great level of depth and complexity.

about the harvest: The bunches were hand-picked.

in the cellar : The bunches were berry sorted on arrival at the cellar. Various vineyard blocks of each varietal were vinified and matured separately. After 18 months the most promising wines of each varietal were selected for making the blend. This is a blend of four different grape varieties that went through a seven-stage selection process. Each wine was tasted individually to determine its own unique attributes and contribution to the blend. Blending was done with one key idea in mind: the whole blend had to be the best reflection of the individual characters; the wine had to feel “complete” to all senses. The result is a very typical Bordeaux style wine, classic in style but with bright fruit and freshness one would expect from cool climate winemaking.
