This wine was named after the Cardouw Pass, the Hottentot word for 'narrow road'. The Hottentots - also known as the 'Khoisan' people - were the original nomadic people of this region and inhabited the area thousands of years before the arival of European colonists.
in the vineyard : Cardouw wine is from a cooler upland zone, part of the Olifants iver ward, situated near Citrusdal 180km north of Cape Town in the Cederberg area. The wine is produced from the most promising grapes from top-performing farms and vineyards.

in the cellar : Following eight days of skin contact to obtain the desired colour and flavour, fermentation continued under controlled conditions at 25°C. The wine was aged for twelve months in French oak barrels and underwent bottle ageing for 6 months before release.
