Stellenbosch Wine Routes Founders' Pack

Stellenbosch Wine Routes is celebrating its 50th birthday in 2021 and to commemorate this, wine.co.za has partnered with three of the founding members to bring you this exclusive 6-Bottle Mixed Case selection of wines.

Delheim Spatzendreck 2019 : This year, Delheim celebrates 60 years of the iconic Spatzendreck. What some first derided as a failure, the late Spatz Sperling resurrected the sweet Spatzendreck to become a favourite of South Africa’s new wine lovers and setting the quality standard for sweet wine in the early 1960’s. This is a collector's item that captures the farm’s history, pioneering efforts, tenacity and sense of humour. Composition - Muscat d' Frontignan, Chenin Blanc, Weisser Riesling.

Delheim Grand Reserve 2015 : The apex of Delheim’s red wine collection, Grand Reserve is a stately expression of the most exceptional red wine the cellar has to offer with each vintage. The maiden vintage was released in 1981. The 2015 vintage of this Bordeaux-style flagship is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Classic in its own style, it has aromas of truffle and mint cassis with nuanced flavours of red berry fruit.

Simonsig Frans Malan Reserve 2014 : Named after Frans Malan, the founder of Simonsig and the patriarch of the Malan family, this Cape Style blend is an elegantly balanced wine with well-defined supple tannins. There is a perfume entrance of rich plums, cinnamon spice and a dash of lead pencil. The three varieties unite and form a powerful trio of concentrated blackberry fruit. A refined dry finish captures the characteristic of this Cape Style blend, leaving lingering notes of sweet plum and spice.

Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Brut 2019 : This year the iconic Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel celebrates its 50th anniversary. The milestone also marks the birth of the country’s Cap Classique category, which has become the ambassador for South African wine excellence at home and abroad. The 2019 vintage is an elegant Cap Classique with a light golden hue and fine persistent mousse. Fresh apple, white peach and citrus blossom entice on the nose. A refined palate shows bursts of lemon, stone fruits and raspberry with a hint of yeasty complexity. Beautiful acidity contributes extraordinary length and finesse to this Cap Classique, making every occasion a memorable celebration.

Spier 21 Gables Pinotage 2016 : The Pinotage grape was created in 1925 by Abraham Izak Perold in Stellenbosch, by grafting Pinot Noir and Cinsaut vines together. More than 85 years later, this uniquely South African varietal is being recognised as an international top achiever. Produced from a vineyard in unusually close proximity to the ocean that benefits from the cool False Bay breezes, our Pinotage is true to character and yet distinctive in style, resulting in a number of international accolades.

Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2018 : It is likely that the first vines planted on Spier in the 1700s were Chenin Blanc grapes. In recent years, the Cape has been recognised as one of the few regions in the world producing fine wine Chenin Blanc. The 21 Gables wooded Chenin Blanc is rich and complex, with fruit from vineyards that are well over 40 years old which produce grapes with thicker skins. The result is a wine with superb flavour intensity and excellent ageing potential.
