La Motte Millennium 2019

The combination of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is a classic match that can be found in some of the most iconic wines in the world. The addition of some Malbec and Petit Verdot gives the wine a rich colour, hints of spice and adds complexity and depth to the blend. Aromatic dark berry and plum notes fill the glass and subtle nuances of fruit cake and toffee provide a sweeter aroma. Notes of spices and charred oak are well integrated with the wine. The wine is medium-bodied on the palate with soft lively tannins and a lingering berry aftertaste.

A South African interpretation of the famous Bordeux-style red blend, the La Motte Millennium responds very well to red meat and roasts. Its accommodating structure also allows for mild curries and hard cheese. It is exceptional with creamy sauces and the earthiness of mushroom.

in the vineyard : Grapes for the wine originate from vineyards in the Walker Bay, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch areas.

The dry conditions during the preceding two seasons continued and caused the harvest to be 15% smaller than that of 2017. It was, therefore, one of the smallest harvests in 15 years. The preceding winter was cold enough, but started late. This delayed budding and, eventually, harvesting started approximately two weeks later than in 2017. Dry and windy conditions once again allowed the grapes to stay healthy, while cool conditions promoted flavour retention. In some areas damage was caused by frost.
