Kaapzicht The 1947 Chenin Blanc 2022

The aromatics of Kaapzicht The 1947 Chenin Blanc 2022 are super complex and spicy with lovely nuances of wet straw, dusty white citrus, honeyed yellow peaches, fynbos and sweet pineapple confit. There is such focused depth, full-bodied plump texture and complexity with fabulous nuances of tangerine peel, naartjie pulp, lychee concentrate and a honey bonbon intensity. A super impressive wine with power, breadth and weight but balancing harmonious acidity. The true personification of delicious old vine Chenin Blanc statesmanship. World-class from every angle.

Serve with a warm Thai prawn curry.

ageing : Drink now and over the next 25 years.

Four generations of Steytlers have been custodians of this special site for almost eight decades. Today, it is one of the oldest Chenin Blanc vineyards in the country. It’s deeply connected to our history and our home, making it impossible to mimic. The wine exemplifies the tension between generosity and restraint found in Bottelary Chenin Blanc.

in the vineyard :

Planted in 1947, on oakleaf soils. This soil type is derived from granite, is acidic and found on mountain foothill slopes and on ranges of hills, and has good physical and water-retention properties.

about the harvest: The grapes are hand harvested.

in the cellar :

Winemaking is very hands on. The grapes are hand harvested, whole-bunch pressed and spontaneously fermented, 50% in amphorae and 50% in barrel.
