Friesland Broer en Suster Shiraz/Grenache 2022

The wine has a dark purple plum core with a magenta red rim. The Shiraz component brings structure, raspberry, violet and spice flavours to the blend, with the Grenache part adding elegance, bright red fruit and sweeter notes of cinnamon and chocolate. AWARDS
Platter’s rating – 4 stars
in the vineyard : The two Shiraz vineyards comprise well drained and aerated soils of decomposed Tafelberg sandstone with a koffieklip top layer. This gives the wine the fine texture, tannins and perfumed fruit on the nose. The Grenache is from the Polkadraai hills, predominantly sandstone with some loam soils.

about the harvest: Grapes were hand harvested

in the cellar : The Shiraz spending 18 days and the Grenache 11 days on the skins. Extraction was done 3 -4 time per day with two aerated pump overs.

The Shiraz portion (90%) was aged in a combination of 2nd to 4th fill French oak barrels for 12 months, and the Grenache Noir (10%) in older French oak barrels (3rd/4th fill) for 6 months.
