Fairydust Field Blend 2024

There are historic vineyards high in the mountainous hills above the Atlantic Cape coastline, where breezes waft off the ocean and the morning mists shroud the imposing cliff faces. Hidden here are vines of Chenin Blanc interplanted with Palomino, dating back to the early 1960s.

At more than 500m above sea level in the fine dust of the surface soil, a talcum powder of sandstone, these brave vines have stood here, unirrigated and trained in the bush vine “Gobelet” form. It is amongst this unique
finesse of terroir that we harvest this “field blend” - tightly bound bunches of Chenin and loosely hanging tendrils of Palomino - to release a wine as subtly perfumed as the mountains themselves, but no less potent than the deafening silence of the vast landscape that
speaks of grandeur. Elegant, refined, understated, yet demanding attention and sure to leave a firm footprint of memory.

in the vineyard : This special Chenin block has interplantings of Palomino, where we hand-harvest the grapes. The two cultivars are picked, pressed and co-fermented, which makes it a field blend.
