Welmoed Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Excellent deep ruby red. Nose is reminiscent of dark berry fruits with hints of nutmeg and vanillin. Excellent, well structured palate with ripe, fine tannins and a lingering rich finish. Serve with Tzatziki Roast Beef or Roast Rack of Lamb with sautÃ©ed or pickled vegetables.

in the vineyard : New virus-free material ensures that grapes can be picked at full ripeness resulting in complex, full-bodied wines. The vines are trellised on a 5-wire hedge system, have an average yield of 7t/ha, are grafted onto 101-14 Mgt and have an average age of 11-15 years. The vines are planted on loamy sand and weathered granite soil, on the lower slopes.

about the harvest: The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness in March.

in the cellar : The wine is fermented on the skins until dry. This is followed by malolactic fermentation. Maturation takes place in small French oak barrels for 12 months.
