in the vineyard : Soil type: Escourt and Clovelly
Cliamte: Unusually hot, dry winter and summer. Temperate conditions at outset led to exceptional warmth prior to harvest.

These vineyards, ranging in age from 11 to 24 years, are planted on the hills of the Helderberg and Stellenbosch areas. During the 2001 vintage, cool conditions allowed the grapes to ripen fully, whilst retaining great fruit flavours and a good structure.

about the harvest: The grapes ripened fully, retaining fruit flavours and structure and a crisp edge. The grapes were harvested at 23.5º Balling in mid February 2001.

in the cellar : Grapes were destemmed and crushed, given 3-4 hours skin contact and thereafter fermented at 13°C in stainless steel tanks.
