Beaumont Mourvèdre 2002

Our 1999 vintage was South Africa's first bottled Mourvedre
Veritas 2004 - Gold

Dark purple colour with violet edges. Spice, tobacco and leather aromas and a palate of black cherry fruit. The balance between fruit and ripe tannins allows for a long refined finish.

about the harvest: These grapes come from four-year old vines, with a very low crop load of around 2 tonnes / ha.

in the cellar : Harvested full ripe and cold soaked for three days before being inoculated with Syrah enoferm yeast. Warm fermentation then took place at 28 - 30°C with two, hourly punch-downs in an open vat.
Six days of fermentation followed with three weeks post maceration. The wine was Basket pressed directly into barrel, 100% French Allier oak for 18 months. No fining, but it was given a clarifying filtration.
