Bellingham Pinotage Spitz 1998

Colour: Deep, bright ruby with purple/blue tinge.
Nose: Complex layered flavours of red berry, rich fruitcake, plum and banana which combine well with the sweet vanilla American oak aromas.
Palate: Hints of spice intermingle with the rasberries, fruitcake and plum flavours. A full round, smooth, rich sensation with the firm but delicate grip of ripe tannins.

in the vineyard : The grapes are sourced from vineyards with vines older than 20 years, bearing natural low yields and where the grapes undergo a long slow ripening period which produces intenser fruit extracts and complex full wines. The versatility of Pinotage is one of its strong points.

in the cellar : The winemakers aim in making this wine was to combine fruit flavours with soft, dry tannins, which would harmoniously, balance on maturation. The grapes were destalked and left to ferment on the skins with regular plunging of the cap. Ageing for 13 months in 100% new American oak barrels.
