Bouwland Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2002

A medium to full bodied blend with a brick red colour. A combination of spices and red berry aromas are rounded of with chocolate and coffee on the palate. Secondary flavours are already showing and the wine has a pleasant dry finish.

The wine will compliment “poultry”, pasta and red meat dishes.

AWARDS
These wines were produced by the Bouwland winery which is owned and run by the farm workers, who through an exciting empowerment project, bought the majority of the shares in the property. Together with celebrated winemaker Beyers Truter who retains an interest in the farm, the team has produced these deliciously rich and fruity wines.
in the vineyard : Climate: Cool summer and growing season overruled the negative aspects of a third dry summer and low water reserves. Even the hottest month February was very cool, only at the end we had four wet days. The cool weather ensured a long ripening period for most red varieties, which resulted in full bodied wines with loads of fruit flavours. An excellent year for Bouwland reds!!
Soil: Hutton, Clovelly, Kroonstad
Yield: 6 Tons/ha

in the cellar : 5 days on the skins in mainly open fermenters at 28º – 30ºC. After malolatic fermentation the wine went into Nevers oak for 6 – 8 months.
