Rozier Bay Merlot 2003

Bronze - International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2005
Deep purple colour leads into aroma’s of blueberry and cigar box. On the palate the wine has a silky texture and forward berry fruit flows into a lingering velvety finish. The potential for Merlot in the Cape is very exciting. It is possible to produce the ‘plummy, lush’ style if the grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness. This parcel from a single Robertson vineyard perfectly encapsulates that style.

Perfect with slow roast lamb, or lightly char-grilled steak, it would also be delicious with charcuterie or accompanying a fine cheese board.

in the vineyard : Essentially viewed as a blending variety Merlot only makes up only approx 6% of all plantings in South Africa. However its potential is now becoming more widely recognised and those who make straight quality Merlot do so with some style.
