Muratie Amber 2005

Muratie's Amber was first produced by George Paul Canitz in the 1930's. The name Amber originated from both the colour of the product as well as the novel Forever Amber written by Cathleen Windsor in the 1920's. This novel is the story of a high class girl who kept some of the British upper class gentleman happy and content in the 1920's! Hence the quote by Canitz "To happy days and glorious nights, forever Amber".

It's ideal to enjoy it with cheese after a meal or to serve it chilled as an aperitif. Either ways it is fun and loosens the tongues and gladdens the heart.

in the vineyard : Upon arrival at Muratie, one is immediately struck by the prevailing air of timelessness and old world charm. The Estate (established 1685) is believed to be one of the oldest privately owned wine estates in the country.

in the cellar : True to tradition the Amber was made from hanepoot grapes (Muscat D'Alexandrie) harvested at 25° Balling and fortified with grape spirits at the critical time in order to assure us of a residual sugar of 100 g/l. This fortified wine is made primarily for its loyal followers.
