Morgenhof Estate Merlot Reserve 2001

The wine has a dark garnet red colour. This wine is full-bodied and powerful. It reminds a bit of a St Emilion wine. The nose has all the essential flavours, i.e. meaty, fruitcake, cherry chocolates and spice. Even though the palate is very full-bodied the tannins are soft and smooth with a powerful explosion of flavours of red cherries, spice and mocha. The wood flavour on the nose and on the palate is very subtle. The wine has been in 100% new French oak barrels for 18 months.

Enjoy this wine with special friends and people that have a passion for Merlot.

This wine was quite a surprise to come out of a young block of Merlot which was in its second year of production. I have to add that this block is planted next to the block that produced the previous two reserves that we bottled.
