Morgenhof Estate Merlot Reserve 2000

The wine has a very dark purple colour. This wine is full-bodied and powerful. It reminds you a bit of a St Emilion wine. The nose has layers of the following flavours, black cherries, prunes, spice, a touch of raspberry, spice and mocha. Even though the palate is very full-bodied the tannins are soft and acceptable. The wood flavour on the nose and on the palate is very subtle. Enjoy this wine with special friends and people that have a passion for Merlot.

in the vineyard : Produced, made and bottled on Morgenhof Wine Estate. This farm is 4 km from Stellenbosch and 25 km from Paarl on the R44 road.

The wine was produced by blending wine made from our oldest block of Merlot on the farm, which is 16 years old, with a barrel selection of wine that showed the most potential from the younger blocks that is 8 years old. The older block is planted on East and South facing slopes and the younger blocks on a West facing slope.
