Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc 1999

Our Sauvignon blanc was made from grapes sourced from three vineyards in the Walker Bay and two vineyards in the Villierdorp area. Each Vineyard adds its own dimension to the final wine and the blend was carefully constructed with the objective of creating an aromatic South African styled Sauvignon blanc - somewhere between the overt fruit of New Zealand and the tight, minerally, restrained Loire styles. Ripeness and palate complexity again characterise our Southern Right Sauvignon blanc, but a tighter more minerally character and more lifted fruit distinguish our 1999 from our 1998.

in the cellar : 1999 was one of our coolest vintages where it counts - in the latter part of the ripening season. January, February and March were significantly cooler than 1997, substantially cooler than 1998 and only very slightly warmer than cold 1996. This combined with higher than average November and December rainfall and lower than average January, February and early March rainfall, in conjunction with a higher number of sunshine hours than 1997, afforded easy, stress free ripening with excellent fruit and acid preservation.
