De Krans Red Stone Reserve 2006

This wine has a vibrant deep plum colour, with dense aromas of rich red berry fruit that supports the gentle tannic structure and long aftertaste.

in the vineyard : Boets and Stroebel Nel released the first single-variety Touriga Naçional dry red wine in South Africa in 2000.  After three years of blending trials, the first Red Stone Reserve was released, the 2003 vintage.

This flagship red blend, named after the breathtaking red stone hills near Calitzdorp, depicts the true terroir of Calitzdorp.  The wine is made in very limited quantities and bottled in an elegant bottle, with the label screen-printed on the bottle.

Viticultural details:
Very low yields from 11 and 7 year old vines, planted on poor clay soils.

about the harvest: Both varieties were picked at optimum ripeness.

in the cellar : After a 24 hour cold- soaking, each wine was fermented separately and pressed. As soon as alcoholic fermentation was finished, the blend was made. After malo-lactic fermentation, it was matured for 10 months in 50% new and 50% first-fill French oak barrels.
