Zevenwacht Zevenrood 2007

A luscious lifestyle wine with hints of fruit and spice, giving a first impression of red berries and chocolate with slight cedar wood undertones. Soft pliable tannins lend subtle support to the structure, yet are unobtrusive on the succulent palate.

ageing : A wine to enjoy now.

in the vineyard : The grapes for this blended wine originate from prime vineyard sites that have been planted with new clonal material. Most of the sites face southwest and do receive supplementary irrigation resulting in optimal ripeness, superbly concentrated flavours and ripe, supple tannins. A clay sub-soil retains essential moisture and the gravelly, granite derived, topsoil allows for effective drainage.

in the cellar : The Merlot contributes softness and a melange of ripe red fruits that add to the lusciousness of the wine. The Shiraz adds a touch of spiciness and complexity, especially in the elegant finish of this approachable wine. Mourverdre, Cabernet Franc and Primitivo add to the luscious ripe red and black fruit flavours.

This blend has been aged in 3rd and 4th fill French barrels to add to the complexity and softness. A 30% unwooded portion was blended for more upfront fruit. These components contribute spicy vanilla notes and wonderful cedar wood complexities on the nose and palate in combination with red berry fruit flavours.
