Klein Constantia Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Distinctly Cabernet Sauvignon aromas with touches of sandalwood and menthol. The ripe briary fruit profile is tempered by fine grained tannins and well integrated oak flavours. A dry, savoury character enhances the lengthy finish.

AWARDS
Top Cabernet in Terrior Awards in 2010
5 stars in John Platter 2011 Wine Guide
Stephen Tanzer March / April 2011 92 Points - Bright red-ruby. Sexy aromas of redcurrant, plum, spices, mint and tobacco, with riper hints of chocolate and mocha. Plummy, sweet and deep; lush and seamless for a Constantia red (the alcohol content is 14.5%). Broad, fine-grained tannins are thoroughly buffered by plum and currant fruit. This plush, long, satisfying wine really perfumes the palate on the slow-building finish, which is complicated by notes of tobacco, spices and nutty, vanillin oak.

ageing : Will benefit from further maturation up to 2020.

in the vineyard : High humidity throughout the growing season posed a problem for many growers, but with careful canopy management and cover cropping we negated this risk.

in the cellar : Careful vineyard selection followed by berry sorting in the cellar provided perfectly sound, ripe berries which were then fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and open top wooden fermentors. The wine spent a period of 22 months maturing in French oak barriques before bottling in April 2010.
