Gabrielskloof Swartrivier Shiraz 2009

Colour: Youthful purple edge with a deep core.
Nose: On entry, subtle and welcoming notes of dark berries and cherries are followed by layers of dark chocolate and neutral white pepper.
Palate: A firm but layered palate that shows richness from both the fruit and the maturation in barrique. The mid-palate has a pleasant grippiness with a creamy texture that lingers into a well-balanced finish.

in the cellar : This wine is a blend of 90% Syrah 2008, 8% Mourvèdre 2009 and 2% Viognier 2009. The majority of oak was French, with an American component. After 12 months of maturation in 100% new barriques a careful selection was made. The selected barriques were racked and transferred to 100% French second-fill barriques for another 10 months. A year of bottle aging was completed before the wine was released.
