Terra del Capo Arne 2008

Fragrant bouquet of red and black fruit - cassis, spice, red cherry and freshly turned earth. Elegance personified! Rich yet restrained with fresh acidity balancing the ripeness of the blending components on the rounded, sleek palate. Cassis generosity meshes with a dark earthiness and a light char note from the integrated oak. Plush, supple and textured throughout but with a distinct firm tannin core. The finish is long and richly fruited.

in the vineyard : The Sangiovese vineyard is situated on a warmer site where afternoon sea breezes cool the vines. Some green harvesting is done in the late season and the vigour and size of bunches, which tend to be big, are managed constantly. The Merlot is from a different farm, which ripens at the same time as the Sangiovese.

in the cellar : The Merlot and Sangiovese grapes were hand sorted, on a double sorting table, the berries went straight into tank without crushing. The grapes were cold soaked for 8 days. After fermentation and some maceration, the wines are transferred into Stainless Steel tanks for malolactic fermentation. Aged in 500L French oak barrels for 18 months, and the bottled wine was aged for a further 12 months before being released.
