Star-bright pale golden straw colour. On the nose the wine shows elegant floral and litchi flavours with hints of rose petals and lime. The richness and complex layered flavours of the late harvest grapes culminate in a delicious, well balanced Gewürztraminer with an elegant freshness and silky acidity.

Serve well chilled as a sundowner on a hot summer’s day or with oriental dishes such as Green Thai curry chicken, Kashmiri curries, smoked salmon or even smoked cheeses.

ageing : Ageing beautifully, by gaining superb complexity after 4 to 6 years, this wine can also be enjoyed while youthful and fresh.

in the vineyard : The 2012 vintage will be remembered as a very dry year with the lowest rainfall logged in our records since 1976, 33% below the long term average. While yields were slightly lower than in 2011, cooler conditions resulted in better quality and more concentrated fruit.

about the harvest: The 2012 harvest started little later than usual on 18th January and 87 days on 13 April.

in the cellar : Simonsig Estate was the first cellar to release a Gewürztraminer in South Africa. First planted in 1973 Simonsig has built a highly successful track record. This grape variety is notoriously difficult to grow, with small bunches and extremely low yield which explains why there are only 122 hectares in South Africa. Its name is derived from Gewürz meaning spice in German and Tramin a town located in the Trentino Alto Adige region of Northern Italy.
