The De Waal Top-of-the-Hill Pinotage is an ink coloured wine with intense flavours of rich black plum, dark chocolate, cigar-box and spiciness. Lovely tannins complete this complex wine.

It has been awarded WINE Magazine Pinotage Champion and has achieved Double Gold medals at the Veritas Awards on numerous occasions. Decanter Magazine rated this wine as one of South Africa’s 10 best wines.

ageing : This food wine is delicious now but will mature for a further 10 - 20 years from vintage.
in the vineyard : This wine was produced from bush vines that were an unbelievable 62 years of age. The vineyard is situated on warmer North facing slopes. The soil type is Gravel & Loam.
about the harvest: These vines produce a limited 2.2 tons per hectare.
in the cellar : The pressing of the grapes and the fermentation period takes 14 days. The wine is then aged in 225 litre French barriques for 21 months.
