Nederburg first produced Edelrood in 1976 with the aim of making a full-bodied blended red wine with a long ageing potential. The 1999 vintage is no exception. The careful selection of noble red varietals produced a racy, rich, full-bodied red wine with great breeding. The wine shows lots of fruit with a good combination of soft wood characters. The larger portion of the wine was matured in big and small wood. It has intense ripe flavours with fruity blackberry tones. On the palate it is dense and well-balanced with a well-rounded finish. Nederburg Edelrood complements oxtail, casseroles, beef, quiches, stroganoff, bobotie, roast venison or even pizza and pasta dishes.
