Aroma: It’s a fruit basket of aromas with melon, pomegranate and cranberry dominating.
Flavour: The creamy palate is instantly attractive and well-balanced with enough acidity provided by the backbone of the Chardonnay. It’s a fullbodied wine for a Rosé with complexity added by the Pinot Noir.

The perfect wine for lunch or a light supper with friends. Great with sushi, salads, grilled seafood or charcuterie platters.

The Pinot Noir/Chardonnay is one of our most popular wines due to its incredible affinity with food, or you can drink it as an aperitif. Technically a Rosé, we prefer calling it Pinot Noir/ Chardonnay, and it sounds much better too.

in the vineyard : The 2 blocks of Pinot Noir Vineyard are situated midway up the Estate on a sea-facing slope. The vines are trellised and manicured for early harvesting as required for this style of wine. The excellent Chardonnay block is located just behind the cellar on an Eastern slope and is trellised. Lying at the foothills of the Helderberg, Avontuur is blessed with well-drained Clovelly and Hutton soils.

about the harvest: Harvested separately. Late January for both components. Average °B at harvest: 22 - 23 balling.

in the cellar : The Chardonnay was pressed lightly, cold-settled & fermented to dryness. The Pinot Noir was harvested before the onset of full colour development in the vineyard and pressed after 2 hours of skin contact. Fermented separately and blended after three months of maturation on the yeast lees, which in the case of the Chardonnay was a bit of an experiment with a yeast usually used for Sauvignon Blanc.
