ageing : This wine will continue to improve in bottle over 3-5 years.

Teardrop is a female African wild dog who was part of a pack at Tswalu in the Kalahari. She moved into an adjacent property and the landowner shot her with a .375. Though she suffered serious injury, her spirit was huge, and the veterinary team at the reserve managed to rehabilitate her over a six-month period. She was moved to Gorongosa in Mozambique, where Painted Wolves have been reintroduced after a 25-year absence.

in the vineyard : Viognier grapes were sourced from a single mountain side block in the Breedekloof. It is one of the highest sites in the Cape with vines at 700 metres above sea level. Yields are naturally low at around 6 tonnes per hectare.

in the cellar :

The grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented in 2 x 500-litre old French barrels and 1 x 300-litre 2nd fill barrel. The ferment started with wild yeast and was completed with cultured yeast. Total production 1,600 bottles.
