La Motte Hanneli R 2024

This wine combines the best wines of the vintage. Spicy and perfumy Syrah from Cape Agulhas beautifully combines with a fruity and creamy Petite Sirah from Franschhoek that also contributes intensity and colour to the blend. The wine is aged in 600-litre French oak barrels from trusted coopers. The extended oak maturation ensures character, stability and depth. The 2022 Hanneli R charms with abundant aromas, a luscious, but elegant palate and a finish with a charismatic and lingering presence.

The growing season started well. Increased moisture resulted in some disease pressure, but the winds that followed later in the season
created drier, healthier conditions. Vineyard development caught up during the hot, dry summer, and harvesting eventually commenced earlier than in the previous two years. The 2024 vintage shows considerable promise for red wines.

in the vineyard : The grapes were harvested separately and fermented in stainless-steel tanks with regular pump-overs. Following primary fermentation, the wine was transferred to 300-litre French oak barrels. The Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in 100% new French oak for 18 months, while 28% of the Shiraz was matured in new barrels and the remainder in older barrels. The components were subsequently blended, and the wine was bottled in April 2026.

in the cellar : Grape varieties used in this blend were sorted and fermented separately. The wines were also matured separately in new 600-litre French oak barrels. After 30 months' maturation, the wines were blended. Bottling happened in March 2025. Only 3586 bottles were produced.
