Ripe, juicy red fruit with a hint of mintiness on the nose. Full, ripe palate with a firm but abundant tapestry of raspberries, plums and gentle vanilla, woven together with subtle ripe tannins.

in the vineyard : Soil type: Hutton, Clovelly & Oakleaf
Climate: A second winter of unusually warm, dry conditions brought vines on early. A cool snap at flowering led to vastly lower yields in early-ripening varieties while yielding excellent quality.

about the harvest: The grapes were harvested at 24.6ยบ Balling. The grapes for this Merlot were selected from 10-year-old vines perched on the south-western slopes of the Stellenbosch mountains.

in the cellar : Grapes were destemmed, crushed and underwent cold maceration for 2 days before fermentation. 60% was fermented in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels for 11 months and 40% was fermented in stainless steel tanks. The barrel and tank components underwent malolactic fermentation in the barrel. Egg white fining and minimal filtration prior to bottling.
