Morgenhof Estate Pinotage 2001

This is a rich vibrant ruby coloured wine. The nose has dominant flavours of raspberries, brambleberries and cinnamon. The palate is soft and seductive in structure with perfect wood and fruit integration.

in the vineyard : Produced, made and bottled on Morgenhof Wine Estate. This farm is 4 km from Stellenbosch and 25 km from Paarl on the R44 road.

The wine was made from two vineyards. The one vineyard is 30 years old and planted on the highest area on the farm (400ft above sea level) facing South-West. This old block is on a Perold trellis. The other vineyards are two young blocks in their third year of production. These young bush-vine vineyards are planted on West facing slopes at 220ft. The density of the latter are 2400 vines per hectare and the clone is P148A.

in the cellar : This wine has been in barrels for 12 months. The wood combination was 10% American oak, 30% new French oak and 60% second fill barrels.
