Weltevrede Oupa Se Wyn 2000

The result is a rich wine with a fine bouquet and a softly flavoursome raisin aftertaste – all the ingredients necessary for a fire-side apéritif, a dessert course accompaniment or as a sun-filled touch of sweetness served over ice in summer.

in the vineyard : Muscadel lovers may remember that back in 1986 Weltevrede made a once-only release of a red Muscadel called Oupa se Wingerd, which had its origin in the so-called Oupa se Wingerd, planted in 1926 by the founder of Weltevrede, Klaas Jonker. Today 780 of its original vines, declared a National Monument, are still harvested and forms part of the 1998 Oupa se Wyn red Muscadel.

in the cellar : Grapes for Oupa se Wyn are harvested at full sweetness, crushed and allowed 36 hours’ skin contact. Punching the skins through the juice maximum colour and character are extracted. Thereafter the juice is separated and fortified with neutral wine spirits before fermentation can take place, in order to retain the natural grape sugar.
