True to its form the Ansela van de Caab 2002 shows its individuality yet again. The wine is terroir driven and is a fine expression of what the beautiful Table Mountain Sandstone soil has to offer here at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain.

in the vineyard : The 2002 was vintage preceded with unexpected and abberational heavy down pours in the month of October 2001. The resultant humid conditions were excellent for downy mildew. To top that we had the east wind giving us good run during the flowering season.

This was all followed by a much cooler 2002 Vintage. The result was that the crop was exceptionally low (about 45% down). The varieties were picked at lower sugar which resulted in lower alcohols.

in the cellar : This blend spent 16 months in French Oak (Â± 25% first fill and the rest in second fill barrels) before being bottled after a very light filtration.
