in the vineyard : Each year, the beginning of the picking season is eagerly anticipated, not only because it is the culmination of a season’s toil, but because at this critical time a lot of good can be undone by a climatic sleight of hand. Because of the consistently strong, moist southeasters which blew incessantly during the ripening period this year, the usual heat spike in January didn’t arrive and only a mildly intense spike occurred at the end of February. My records show that the week following this spike was full of clouds and light drizzle – great conditions for harvesting optimally ripe Sauvignon Blanc. Which is exactly what we did! The result is a wine that expresses itself in an intriguing mélange of aromas and flavours.
about the harvest: Hand picked and rushed to the cellar on the mornings of the 2nd and 3rd of March, all our fruit was safely in by late-morning, guaranteeing that the exciting fruit flavours of the grape were preserved and reflected in this wine.
