ageing : Ready to drink now but could age for a further 2 to 3 years.

in the vineyard : Simonsig Adelberg has been part of the Simonsig range since the early seventies when the blend contained mostly Pinotage and some Cabernet and Shiraz. In 1998 the blend was changed to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in an easy drinking Bordeaux style blend. In 2006 the packaging was modernised and the label was put back firmly in the Simonsig stable. In keeping with the latest trends in the world of wine Adelberg is now sealed with a beautifully designed screw cap to eliminate cork taint and seal in all the quality straight from the vineyard.

The 2010 vintage will be remembered as the smallest vintage in many years. Virtually every force of nature, pests and fungal disease contributed to the smaller yields. Although the 2010 vintage was not a vintage of quantity it most definitely was one of quality and concentrated fruit.

about the harvest: On 12 March we picked the selected block Merlot at 25°B. the wine showed great ripeness and concentration of red berry fruit. On 18 March we started picking the Cabernet and finished during the first week of April. When to pick the Cabernet was one of the toughest decisions to make as it has very big tannins and they need to be ripe to achieve top quality. As with the Merlot the Cabernet shows good quality but with significantly less volume.
