The benefit of having older Sauvignon Blanc vines is now becoming very noticeable, with some plantings now exceeding twenty years of age! Such mature vines offer richness of fruit which extend to bolder wines as evident in this 2013 vintage. It is possibly our richest and most structured Sauvignon Blanc ever and interesting to note that it is perhaps the first vintage where the harvesting of Sauvignon Blanc has taken place ahead of our Pinot Noir. Historically Pinot noir has always been the first grapes to reach the cellar, but for vintage reasons we have been presented with an about-turn in ripening dates, illustrating that grape varieties have personalities of their own, which in this case is probably influenced by the particularly long winter of 2012? This is all hand-picked estate fruit presenting an intensity and spiciness with a haunting perfume of gooseberry and lemon grass layered over a mineral rich creamy palate. More tropical than grassy with great fruit tones and loads of body. It is also expected to age well!
