Background
Simonsig first bottled a Sauvignon blanc in 1978, but it has only been in the last 10 years that the variety has started to reach its full potential. Meticulous attention to site and clonal selection as well as optimal canopy management in the vineyard consistently results in quality grapes packed with flavour. Terroir plays a significant role when it comes to the quality of Sauvignon blanc. Over the last few years new Sauvignon blanc plantings were made on the coolest site on the Estate. At an altitude of 250 - 280 meters the vineyards overlook False Bay a mere 20 km away to the South.

The 2014 vintage was quite a challenge. With the heat waves in February and winter’s rain in March it created a juggling match of when and what to pick. Not only was it nerve racking but tested our endurance starting on the 23rd of January and finishing 14th of April. Every vintage the Sauvignon Blanc brings new challenges and 2014 was no different. Especially with the weather conditions in February it was of utmost importance to evaluate the blocks on a daily basis. With fruit coming from Walker Bay for the first time it caused quite an excitement for the winemakers and really helped spread our wings/boundaries on Sauvignon Blanc.
