ageing : A well structured wine that traditionally starts off a little tight and closed but has the potential to open up as it matures over the next 10-15 years.

in the vineyard : The wine is made from a combination of 10 year old vines and 24 year old vines. The soil is sandy over a deep yellow clay base, restricting yield naturally, thus providing good quality grapes that ripen easily without losing too much of their natural acid. Irrigation is supplied in very dry summers, thus enabling the grapes to ripen easily without placing undue stress on the vines.

about the harvest: The grapes were harvested on the 25/03/1999 at 24Âº Balling.

in the cellar : The wine matured for 18 months in 51% French 225l New barrels, 13% American 225l New barrels, 36% 2nd Fill French 225l barrels. A small percentage of Cabernet Franc (13%) has been blended into this wine for complexity and distinctive pepperiness. The wine was bottled on the 01/05/2001.
