Veritas 2003 - Double Gold

ageing : Now until 2015.

in the vineyard : The Muratie Shiraz was made from three different vineyards on the estate. The oldest block was planted in 1975. The other two were planted in 1994 and 1998. The old block has a Perold trellising system, whereas the newer block have the Smart trellising system. All three blocks are Northwest facing and the elevation varies 280m to 260m above sea level. All the vineyards are dryland vineyards due to the quality of the deep Table Mountan sandstone soil.

about the harvest: The crop is controlled, so the vines yield on 5.58 tons per hectare. Grapes were handpicked at optimum ripeness, then crushed and destalked (picking dates were 26th of February, 7th March and 25 March 2002).

in the cellar : A combination of traditional open and stainless steel fermenters were used. Cold soak was done which was followed by regular pumpovers and plunging. The wine was matured in a combination of American and French oak.
