Muratie Shiraz 2001

On appearance one is struck by the deep plum red colour. The nose has the classic smokey, peppery character of Shiraz. The acid and tannins are well balanced, giving the wine great structure and depth.

ageing : The wine is very seductive now but will grow and benefit with a few more years of bottle ageing.

about the harvest: The Shiraz was hand harvested from two blocks respectively. Harvesting of the older vines occurred on the 19/02/01 at a yield of 2 tons per hectare. The younger vines were harvested on the 20th and 27th of February 2001 delivering a yield of 5 tons per hectare. Both blocks were harvested at 25° B.

in the cellar : The wine was made in a combination of traditional open fermenters as well as in closed stainless steel tanks. After fermentation the wine was placed in American and French Oak for one year, 25% new oak.
