Very dark, brick red and purple colour. Intense spicy nose dominated by cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and dark berry fruits. Big well balanced palate of dark plummy fruit, spices with a hint of toasty wood, this palate is backed up by nice dry tannins.

in the vineyard : The Pinotage and Touriga Nacional grapes used are from 40 year old vines.

in the cellar : We do the traditional thing by footstomping in an open kuip to allow for maximum colour and tannin extraction. The wine was innoculated after two days on the skins with WE 372 yeast. After two days regular punching down, the wine was hard pressed at 11º Balling and fortified at 9º Balling. The wine was then racked into 6th-fill French oak barrels, where it remained for two years. It was bottled by hand, unfiltered and unfined.
Only 75 cases were produced.
