Groot Constantia Shiraz 2002

The Shiraz is well balanced with flavours and hints of mint and blackcurrant, some good fleshy fruit backed by firm tannins. It has a small percentage of American Oak, which gives a touch of sweetness and vanilla character to the wine.

in the vineyard : Climate: Situated on the Cape Peninsula overlooking False Bay. The vineyards are tucked on the steep valley on the Eastern side of Table Mountain. The area is blessed with a maritime climate due to the oceans on both sides and annual average rainfall of 1100mm.
Soil type: Clovelly and Glenrosa

about the harvest: The grapes were picked at 23 - 24· Balling.

in the cellar : Fermentation took place in the open tanks and lots of pump overs. Wines matured in New French Oak Barrels 225 litres as well as 2nd and 3rd fill, with 10% in American Oak for a period of 12 months.
