Drostdy Hof Merlot 1998

This 100% Merlot cultivar wine has a full-bodied, soft character with rich cherry nose nuances and a lingering, fruity aftertaste. It has marked but mellow tannins for early drinkability. This supple and versatile wine lends itself to a great variety of dishes and occasions, from homely casseroles to the most festive fare.

in the vineyard : The grapes came from vineyards in the Stellenbosch and Durbanville areas.

about the harvest: The grapes were picked by hand.

in the cellar : In the cellar the juice received 6 days skin contact and fermented at 28Â°C. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured in wood for 14 months â€“ 20% in new French oak, 47% in second-fill casks and 33% in third-fill casks. The wine was blended with 13% Cabernet Sauvignon.
